Never Doubt Your Worth
I love sharing my client’s stories through portraits and interviews. Millie is 64 years young and from Columbia, South Carolina. She had never had professional portraits done until this session. We are so glad Millie took part in the 40 over 40 and we could capture her beauty and kindness. Here are a few snippets from Millie’s interview.
What made you get pictures done?
I was always envious of people who had this type of thing done. I’m the one always taking care of people and I decided I wanted to do something for myself and have fun.
When was the last time you had professional pictures done?
I’ve never had professional portraits done.
How do you think values have changed from when you were a little girl to now?
When I was younger, it did not matter what you did or what your appearance looked like. Today it is all about what you look like on the outside and what you are doing.
What would you tell your 20 year old self?
I would have been more focused career-wise and probably have done something different. I would have appreciated life. When you get to be my age, you think “Wow, where did the time go?”
If we asked your husband what would he say is the best quality about you?
I’m a giving person. I like to help people. I’m always looking after others instead of taking care of myself.
How has the definition of beauty changed over the years?
For me, I have to reflect on my mom. She always told me to be myself and don’t try to be someone you are not. It’s not what is on the outside but what is on the inside that is most important.
How do you think the younger generation perceives your generation?
I think we are admired. I think they see that we have worked hard for what we have. They can see we are respectful of others no matter the ages.
What advice would you give your boys?
Work hard, save money and appreciate what you have. Be respectful of everyone regardless of who they are or where they come from. Treat everyone the way you would want to be treated.
What advice would you give young people today?
Work hard to get what you want. Don’t expect things to be handed to you.
What is your favorite quote or scripture?
Never doubt your worth.
